REVISING YOUR NOVEL

Revision. It strikes terror in the hearts of writers everywhere. The reality is that revision, like housecleaning, is best approached one thing at a time. In this Revision Workshop, I will walk you through revision in stages. The first stage will involve story fixes – how to identify your structure, how to find the scenes you don’t need, how to plug in the scenes you do. The next stages will walk you through the work of fine-polishing things like overused words, cliched phrasing, stilted dialogue and basic spelling and grammar – all while protecting the voice that makes this a book only you could write.

How it works:
When class starts, your StoryWonk forums login will get you access to a private board accessible only to members of the class. I will be active on the board for any questions and discussions for the length of the class. Consider this novel writing with training wheels – I am your training wheels, there to help you set yourself upright again when you feel wobbly.

During the weekly online class, I’ll be lecturing live and answering questions you put into the live chat. If you cannot make the live online class, the class will be recorded and available for you to view at your convenience. While the class runs six weeks, you can take your time and get revision done at your pace; the video classes will be available for you for as long as you need them.

In the private forum board, we will discuss that week’s assignment and exercises, and I will be available to answer questions and provide encouragement. We will dig into the revision process, brainstorm sticking points and provide encouragement and support when you feel like you just can’t read it one more time. Which you will. But trust me – it’ll be worth it once it’s all done.

Come to class with:
A finished rough draft. Or a mostly finished rough draft.

Finish the class with:
A clean and polished manuscript ready to go.

Cost: $30/week/6 weeks = $180
